Installing 10.5.8 on HP Pavillion Notebook with Windows 7

I'm writing all this based on memory but I think it's pretty accurate. :) After a week of testing several available installations out there I was able to finally install 10.5.7 then MAC upgrade to 10.5.8 easily on HP Pavillion. (Triple boot Windows 7 / XP /Leopard)

PC specs:

HP Pavillion dv5000t (Japanese version)
Intel Core Duo T2300 1.66 GHz processor
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
2 Gig Memory
Intel Pro/1000 VE Network Card

This is what you need to do:

1. ON windows, create a separate partition for the MAC OS. Used Fat32. (15GB will do)
2. Obtain an IATKOS 10.5.7 CD
3. Burn the ISO to a DVD
4. Boot from IATKOS CD
5. Select English and continue
6. Click on Utilities -> Disk Utility
7. Select the partition you created on the left side
8. Click Erase --> select (Mac OS Journaled) as type
9. Close Disk Utility and continue with the installation
10. Click Customize for the installation
11. On Graphic -> just select GMA950
12. Install!
13. Reboot..
14. Ok. It might mess up your bootloader. This is what you need to do
Boot from Windows 7 --> repair disk (This will rebuild your Windows 7 installation)

15. Now boot on Windows 7
16. Use BCDEasy beta 2.0 --> http://neosmart.net/forums/showthread.php?t=642 (You need to register to obtain the installation)
17. Run BCD Easy. Add Mac OS (Default: EFI)
18. If you have Windows XP then you can add here as well
19. Reboot
20. Now you can boot to MAC and Dance!
21. As you noticed you don't have LAN Support.
Rquired to add a product ID AppleIntel8255x.kext, which is located here:
/System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleIntel8255x.kext/Contents/Info.plist

If you don't know how to get into the kext, right click it and choose "Show Package Contents."
- Open in text editor and look for the lines below:

IOPCIMatch
0x10518086 0x10508086 0x10298086 0x10308086&0xfff0ffff 0x12098086 0x12278086 0x12288086 0x12298086 0x24498086 0x24598086 0x245d8086 0x10918086 0x10608086&0xfff0ffff

You will have to add the following bit to the end of that line.

0x10928086

IOPCIMatch
0x10518086 0x10508086 0x10298086 0x10308086&0xfff0ffff 0x12098086 0x12278086 0x12288086 0x12298086 0x24498086 0x24598086 0x245d8086 0x10918086 0x10608086&0xfff0ffff 0x27dc8086

Save the .plist file (save it to the desktop with the name "Info.plist" and then drag it into the Contents folder for AppleIntel8255x.kext. It will ask for authentication, which you say yes to (must type password if you have one).

Open up Terminal and type in the following

sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache
sudo kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

Open Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions.

Reboot.

22. Go to System Preference:
Network -> Enable your Ethernet connection. It should be enabled now.

23. Now you can use software update from 10.5.7 -> 10.5.8 (just click on Software Update)
24. You might need to connect your notebook to an external monitor. Here's an easy way to do it and be able to extend
it to an external monitor.

25. Now you have a well running MAC!

Trouble shooting:

1. If something goes wrong. start mac in safe mode. -x on the command line
2. If you need to alter the kext on startup

start with (-s) command
on root> fsck -y
on root> mount uw /

This will enable you to make changes on your kext like the mv or rm commands

3. To check on the error. Just use (-v) verbose to see where it is hanging and use GOOGLE to
search for that particular problem!
